PITTSFIELD -- A North Adams man was sentenced Friday in Berkshire Superior Court to 18 months in jail for beating a 60-year-old man last summer.
Francis N. Farron, 29, of Chase Avenue, pleaded guilty to two felonies before Judge John A. Agostini.
Farron was brought to court through a District Attorney's complaint, a process that bypasses the grand jury route. This type of complaint can only be brought if a defendant agrees to it.
Farron admitted hitting and kicking a 60-year-old on Aug. 18 in North Adams.
The judge sentenced Farron to 18 months at the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction on a charge of assault and battery on a person 60 or older.
Farron was also given two years of probation on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a shod foot, and was ordered to stay away from the victim while on probation.
First Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Paul J. Caccaviello prosecuted the case. Farron was represented by attorney Trevor Davis.
The investigation was conducted by members of the North Adams Police Department.
