50 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- Airman 2C. Albert Sartori, son of Virginia Sartori of 12 Hooker St., will leave later this week for Custer Air Force Base at Battle Creek, Mich., following a three-day leave at his home. Airman Sartori has been stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., since last May, when he began a radar maintenance course. NORTH ADAMS -- Joyce Elder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Elder of 246 Franklin St., has been notified that she has passed her state board examination and now is a registered nurse. She graduated this year from the Henry Bishop III Memorial School of Nursing at Pittsfield General Hospital and is presently on the nursing staff at the North Adams Hospital.

FLORIDA -- Gabriel Abbott School won first prize in Datatronic Computer Center’s "Computer Learning Contest," for a computer program put together by students. The winners are 8th graders Rick Bounds, Tracy Smith, Kim Morin, and Nathan May; 5th grader Jenny Arigoni; 6th grader Erica May; and 4th graders Rebecca Arigoni and Gabriel Bonneville.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Carin DeMayo, a junior at Mt. Greylock Regional High School, is in Chicago, Ill. participating in the 1987 National 4-H Congress which began Saturday and runs through Friday. She is with a group of 24 Massachusetts 4-H’ers between the ages of 15 ad 19. Miss DeMayo, daughter of Richard

FLORIDA -- As a SHINE counselor, resident Maralyn Brown never expected to receive special recognition for her efforts, especially from the governor. Brown was presented with the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Health Benefits Counseling at the town’s Council on Aging party. Frances Bedini nominated Brown for her dedication to the job and people she serves.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Berk shire Country Day School has announced the first trimester Head of School’s List. Local students receiving high honors are Julia Kleed erman and Corey Silberstein, both of Williamstown. Re ceiving honor are Seth Madi son, of Lanes borough, and Daniel Kleeder man, of Williams town.
