50 years ago today

FLORIDA -- Gunners Mate 3.C. Charles Poirot, son of Mrs. Louis Poirot of Poirot Road, has received his discharge from the U.S. Navy. He joined the Navy in January, 1959, as a minority enlistee and was to have been discharged Oct. 26, five days before his 21st birthday, but his enlistment was extended because of the Cuban crisis. ADAMS -- Margaret Herr mann of 57 Quality St., was initiated last night into the Berk shire County Top-H Service Club at the group’s annual dinner meeting. Top-H is an or ganization for senior 4-H mem bers who have spent a number of years in regular 4-H Club activities. Miss Herrmann is a junior at Adams Memorial High School.

NORTH ADAMS -- The annual Mom’s Club banquet for the Drury football team was held Sunday night. Awards went to Kevin Aubin (de fense), Jeff Bleau (offense), Ray King (John J. DelNegro award), Leon Thomas (Un sung Hero), Jim Roberts (James Kateley Memorial Award), Mike Felix (most improved) and Todd Field (Mom’s Club award).

CLARKSBURG -- Five students from Clarksburg Ele men tary School received second place honors in a contest sponsored by Datatronics Com puter Center in Green field. Russell Bedard, John Dix, Trevor Tatro, Michael Girard and David Goddard wrote essays for the school’s resource room pertaining to the uses and future of computer technology.

ADAMS -- Chris Baker, son of Doris Baker of Adams, recently was named to the Hp Scholastic Junior All-Ameri can Golf Team. The team is part of the American Junior Golf Association, which represents over 6,000 golfers worldwide. Baker attended Saddle brook Golf Academy in Tam pa, Fla., this fall.

ADAMS -- Several local runners competed in the York, Maine 350th Turkey Trot 5-Kilometer road race Nov. 30. The field included 134 top runners, and the top local finisher was Steven Wisniowski of Adams. He was 11th overall and first in the men’s age 30-39. Other local finishers were Mike Pytko who finished 14th overall, Diane Pytko of North Adams who placed 40th overall and Kelly Wisniowski of Adams, 43rd.
