ADAMS -- Alyson "Aly" Kalisz isn't old enough to go out and play the lottery or pop a cork to celebrate, but today is one birthday she'll always remember.
Kalisz turns 12 today, on Dec. 12, 2012, or 12-12-12.
"I think a few years ago, I realized about [today] and would keep on thinking about it," said Kalisz, an Adams resident and sixth-grader at Hoosac Valley Middle & High School.
Aside from today's unique milestone, that's about all Kalisz has in common with 12. Her lucky number is 2. She was just under 7 pounds when she was born around 4 in the afternoon.
"We looked it up, hoping for more coincidences," said Kalisz's mother, Susannah McAllister.
McAllister did find an online Facebook community for Dec. 12 birthdays, which highlights some other people, like Kalisz, who are turning 12 years old today.
Kalisz said she is also looking forward to celebrating with friends and family, who are already making a big deal about the occasion.
McAllister made her daughter a special T-shirt commemorating the event and is having a friend make 12 special cookies, since Kalisz doesn't care for cake.
Tonight, family members will be visiting the 12-year-old for a pizza party, and this weekend, Kalisz will be having a slumber party with friends. During an interview with New England Newspapers, she hinted that she's hoping to inherit her mom's old iPhone for a birthday gift.
Special day aside, Kalisz said
And what would she wish the others who share her Dec. 12, 2000, birth date?
"I guess I'd just wish them a happy birthday," she said.
