NORTH ADAMS -- Officers of Congregation Beth Israel were elected last evening. Eugene Wein was named president to succeed his father, Harry Wein, who has served as president for nearly 30 years. Others elected are first vice president, Joseph Kelman; second vice president. Atty. Bernard Lenhoff; treasurer, Harold Less; financial secretary, Morton Freedman; and recording secretary, William Bashevkin.
NORTH ADAMS -- Air Force 2nd Lt. George Hamer, son of Mrs. Carl Butler of 21 Ray St., has completed a course as a weapons controller and has been assigned to duty at Luke-Williams Range, Ariz.

NORTH ADAMS -- Coffee Time Vending Blackhawks beat South Adams Savings Bank Nordiques, 4-2, in Northern Berkshire Youth Hockey Association Mite action. Brad Chalifoux and Colin O’Connor had two goals each for the Blackhawks. Brent Butler and Keith Metcalf had assists. For the Nordiques, Ryan Grogan and Brian Dennison each had a goal.
NORTH ADAMS -- The Elks beat the Eagles 16-8 in Northern Berkshire YMCA Youth Basketball League action. Kolfi Cash scored 10 points and Kyle George added four to boost the Elks over the Eagles. Peter Melito was the high scorer for the Eagles with four points while E.J. Smith and Jim Morocco had two.

CHESHIRE -- The Hoosac Valley girls swim team upended
NORTH ADAMS -- The Northern Berkshire YMCA Betta Swim Team hosted the Pittsfield YMCA Polar Bears in a dual meet Dec. 21. Leading the Bettas with double first-place finishes were Mike Munzer, David Button and Jordan Vanuni. Putting in strong second place finishes were Munzer, Button, Selena Bohl, Elizabeth Lincoln, Amanda Krutiak and Tyler Grees.
