ADAMS -- Eight members of Explorer Scout Post 38 camped out at a cabin at North Pond over the weekend, with their advisor, Bernard Fryc, and associate advisor, David Hathaway. The boys were Francis Bourdon, Jeffrey Harrison, William Schwarzer, Denis Hoye, Terrence Gallagher, Daniel Sherman, Louis Gioffrion and Robert Bordeau.
STAMFORD, Vt. -- Charles Lesure, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Carl Lesure of Mill Road, has been promoted to the rank of technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He currently is serving as an aircraft electrical technician with the 4624th Material Squadron at Hancock Field, N.Y.

ADAMS -- Selectmen approved two appointments at their regular meeting Wednesday. At the recommendation of Joseph Fijal, wastewater treatment plant superintendent, selectmen approved Joseph James Ahola of 797 Sandmill Road, Cheshire as a Step 1 wastewater treatment plant operator. Selectmen also reappointed Leland Lowry of Notch Road as special Animal Control Officer for a one-year period at the recommendation of Adams Police Chief Bruce McLaren.
NORTH ADAMS -- Two North Adams police officers were awarded the second highest honor in law enforcement for heroism in the line of duty on Wednesday by Gov. Michael Dukakis. Detective Robert Canale and Patrolman William Davis Jr. received the George Hanna Medal of Valor for the "courage and good judgment" they showed in the April 2, 1986 arrest of four heavily armed armored car robbers.

NORTH ADAMS -- In North Adams YMCA Basketball action recently, Legacy Banks defeated Gallup & Casey, 10-5. Kayla Brown-Wood and Bethani Hakes led Legacy with four points each. Kaitlyn Moresi chipped in with two. Gallup was led by Lyndsey DeGrenier and Kelsey Ouimet with two points each.
NORTH ADAMS -- In North Adams YMCA Basketball action recently, Ladies Auxiliary beat Specialty Minerals, 11-6. Samantha Cantoni led Ladies Auxiliary with six points, while Kendra Hinkell and Stephanie Sacco each added two. Becca Worth had a free throw. Morgan Kierstead led Specialty with four points and Briana Groves had a basket.
