BENNINGTON, Vt. -- The Mount Greylock Nordic ski teams started the season off right on Monday, claiming both races at Prospect Mountain.
The girls were first of seven teams by 20 points while the boys beat second-place Wahconah by 36.
Kat Chenail won the girls race for the Mounties in 18 minutes, 55 seconds. She was followed by Lenox's Josie Marshall, who finished in 19:08. A pack of five Greylock skiers -- led by Sophia Dastoli in fourth -- gave the Mounties six of the top 10. Lenox's Sophie Silverstein was ninth.
"The girls skied great," said Mounties girls' coach Hilary Greene. "Kat, I'm really proud of her. It wasn't really a surprise because she's put so much work in. It's really nice to see that hard work pay off. Sophie Gerry [8th] has really stepped up. Same with Greta Savitsky [13th], another ninth grader coming up."
Will Kirby won the boys race for Greylock in 16:09. Teammates Alex White and Sean Houston rounded out the top 3. Seven of the top 10 were Greylock skiers. Curran Doyle of second-place Wahconah was ninth in 18:45.
GREENFIELD -- Ryan Ouimet recorded six assists and Wahconah rallied in the second period to defeat Turners Falls 7-3 on Monday in a holiday tournament.
Ouimet, who had three goals and seven assists in the two-game event, was MVP.
The Warriors trailed 2-1 early in the second period and were tied at 3-3 until Turners took a pair of penalties with five minutes left in the period.
"We scored on the five-on-three and then on the five-on-four, and that was huge," said Warrior coach Don Disbrow. "That was a big boost for us going into the last period."
Wahconah scored twice more in the final period. Lane Grogan had a pair of goals and three assists for the winners.
