NORTH ADAMS -- Lawrence Bellows, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bellows of Mohawk Trail, left yesterday to begin Navy boot training at the Great Lakes (Ill.) Naval Training Station. He signed up Dec. 27. On completion of his basic course he will be granted 14 days’ leave before reporting to his first duty assignment. CHESHIRE -- Eugene Gebarowski Jr. of South Street has been accepted as a junior member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America in Brattleboro, Vt. He qualified for the certificate of merit and junior membership pin through successful dairy project work with registered Holstein cattle.

NORTH ADAMS -- Drury junior John Trombley took a second place and freshman Kurt Collins took a third this week in the Lowell Christmas wrestling tournament. The event involved 32 teams. Also winning matches for Drury were Jason Griffin, John Vallieres, Trevor Burdick and Steve Milette.
SAVOY -- The Hill Town will once again be searching for a dog officer, as Richard Jones indicated to selectmen his desire to resign his position. Selectmen’s Chairman Douglas Haskins said the selectmen received the verbal request Wednesday night. Selectman Allen Carlow said the job of dog officer was conflicting with a job Mr. Jones has at McCann School.

NORTH ADAMS -- The Hoosac Bank Board of Directors has elected Stephen Long Jr. as chairman. A resident of North Adams since 1964, Long has served on the Hoosac Bank Board of Directors for 26 years. He is also a board member of MountainOne Financial Partners Inc., which is the holding company for Hoosac Bank, Williamstown Savings Bank, Coakley, Pierpan, Dolan & Collins Insurance Agency Inc. and True North Financial Services Inc.
