SHEFFIELD -- The Hoosac Valley girls’ basketball team continued its hot shooting, knocking down seven 3s and scoring 23 points in the third quarter to roll to a 71-26 win over Mount Everett.
Hoosac had three players in double figures, led by 15 points from Meg Rodowicz and Amber Lesure. Jen Gale added 11.
"We came out flat. They came out aggressive," said Eagles coach Scott Rote. "We just didn’t handle their pressure well. We had a lot of turnovers from their press. They just ran the floor. ... Everything they threw up went in."
Amber Lesure and Mckenzie Robinson each had two 3-pointers for the Hurricanes.
Greylock boys’ basketball
WILLIAMSTOWN -- A big third quarter powered the Mounties to the comfortable victory, 73-41 over Lenox.
Tyler Picard had 24 points while Nathan Majumder had 16 points and Hank Barrett added 15 for the victors. Greylock held their visitors to 15 first-half points and poured it on in the third by scoring 26.
"I thought our defensive pressure was good," said Mounties coach Bob Thistle. "We really turned it up a notch in the third quarter. ... Picard had a big game for us. We got him touches and he executed."
Jared Tuttle and Ben Herrick had eight points each for Lenox.
McCann boys’ basketball
NORTHFIELD -- The McCann Tech boys’ basketball team hit its first three shots of the night, including two 3-pointers by Justin
Smith changed its defense after a quick start by the Hornets and held them to just three second-quarter points. All three points came from the foul line as the Hornets struggled to hit shots for the majority of the night.
"We’re getting looks, we’re just not shooting very well," coach Mike Nykorchuck said.
The Hornets went 19 of 63 from the floor in the game.
"Defensively, we’re not bad," Nykorchuck said. "We’re struggling in the second quarter for whatever reason."
Cote and Josh Superneau both had 12 points for the Hornets, while Smith’s Sam Sharpe had a game-high 21 points.
Drury boys’ basketball
PITTSFIELD -- Taconic was hot early, pushing out to a 21-6 lead after a quarter and taking a 68-56 lead over Drury.
"The first quarter set the tone," said Taconic coach Bill Heaphy. "I thought we pressured the ball well. But we couldn’t really shake them. They kept it close."
Shaq Ardrey drilled 27 points to lead all scorers, while Drew Scace collected 13 rebounds for Taconic. Nolan Bird had 19 for Drury.
MCLA Women’s basketball
BENNINGTON, Vt. -- The MCLA women’s basketball team scored 15 of the first 16 points of the second half to roll past Southern Vermont, 80-34.
Lucy Tremblay had 18 points for the Trailblazers (8-4) while picking up six rebounds and six assists. Johanna Miner had 16 points while Danielle Scolpino added 10 points.
MCLA forced 39 turnovers on the night and ripped down 46 rebounds in the win. The Trailblazers open MASCAC play on Tuesday when they host Salem State at 5:30 p.m.
MCLA men’s basketball
TROY, N.Y. -- The Trailblazers dropped their ninth game of the season despite a double-double from John Jones, 82-59 to Sage College.
Jones had 18 points and 26 rebounds -- including 13 on the offensive side -- but it wasn’t enough on the road. Sage led by 11 at the half and built that lead to nearly 20 midway through the second. MCLA would never get any closer than 14 points.
The Trailblazers are back in North Adams to open the MASCAC slate against Salem State on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
