NORTH ADAMS -- Ending 14 days' leave at his home, Airman Apprentice Vincent Morehouse of the U.S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Francis Morehouse of 63 Natural Bridge Road, has reported to the Naval Air Station at Pensacola, Fla. He will be on temporary duty there for eight months, then will be transferred to the Navy's Technical Training Station to attend aviation machinist's school. NORTH ADAMS -- Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Ronald Mativi, home on 30-day leave after eight months with a Navy construction unit in Alaska, will go to Port Huneme, Calif. on Monday to start a tour of shore duty. The petty officer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mativi of 145 State St., enlisted in the Navy in July 1960 and was trained at the plumbing, air conditioning and refrigeration school at Port Huneme.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Jonathan Sabin has been admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and was sworn in Dec. 22 in Boston. He graduated in June 1987 from Boston University School of Law. The son of Attorney William Sabin of Williamstown and Virginia Sabin of Maine, he is practicing law with his father at 86 Spring St.

NORTH ADAMS -- The mayor has announced the appointment of a Downtown Task Force to develop a plan to fill vacant stores and address other problems with the city's major retail district. Members are Corydon Thurston, James Campbell, David Carver, James

ADAMS -- Congressman John Olver has nominated 21 high school students from the 1st Congressional District to U.S. Military Academies, including West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy and the Merchant Marines Academy. Among the students is Scott Berti of Adams, who was nominated to the Air Force Academy.

NORTH POWNAL, Vt. -- Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class James Mottor, son of JoAnne and Mike Mottor of North Pownal, recently completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf. He was assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 15, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
