ADAMS -- The town has announced that outdoor burning permits are now available.

The open burning of agricultural debris, excluding leaves, grass, stumps and demolition debris, will begin Jan. 15 and end May 1 at 4 p.m. These dates are set by the Department of Environmental Protection.

Open burning will be allowed by permit only. Burning is permitted between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Outdoor fires must be at least 75 feet from any building, attended to and under control at all times. Violation of Massachusetts Law (527 CMR 10:22) can be punishable by a fine of $100.

A burning permit must be obtained before any burning can be done. Permits may be obtained by calling Forest Warden Dick Kleiner at work at 413-743-0179, ext. 12, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at home at 413-743-3592 at all other times.
