FLORIDA -- Henry Bounds, eighth grade pupil at the Consolidated School, was declared winner of the science countdown held Tuesday at the school as part of the statewide program to determine the outstanding eighth grade science student. The program, sponsored by the Lowell Technological Institute, is held annually and the winner in each school goes on to the county elimination. NORTH ADAMS -- A second training program for 4-H Clothing Club leaders was held yesterday at the Massachusetts Electric Co. Certificates of merit for completing the two-session course were presented to Mrs. Morris Alpert, Mrs. Melvin Tierman, Mrs. Peter Cantone and Mrs. Leon Berry, all of North Adams; and Mrs. Fiore Maruco of Adams.

NORTH ADAMS -- Phaneuf Construction edged Patten Corp. 66-62 in the Northern Berkshire YMCA Men’s Basketball League. Greg Collette scored 18 and Mark Wilk added 16 for Phaneuf. Dave Lipinski had 29, including two 3-pointers for Patten, while Leo Kalinowski scored 13.

NORTH ADAMS -- Deep-Thompson trounced Waverly 70-31 in the Northern Berkshire YMCA Men’s Basketball League. Steve Florio scored 18 points for Deep-Thompson, and Mike Moore scored 11. Bob Upton hit three 3-pointers for Waverly on his way to 18 points, and Ken Swiatek chipped in with seven.

hoop action, Steve Senecal led all scorers with 23 points en route to a 67-39 victory over Readsboro. Tom Primmer added 19 points, while Wes Pecor added nine and Leon Thomas added seven. For Readsboro, Vinnie Gottardi netted 12 points and Drew Boudreau had 10

NORTH ADAMS -- The North Adams Grade 5-6 Rotary/YMCA Girls All-Stars defeated Williamstown, 30-19. Taylor DeSanty topped the locals with 17 points. Christy Meija added four points. Miranda Girard and Molli Rennell had two points each and helped effectively run the North Adams offense.
