CHESHIRE -- A new mathematics and physical education teacher has been hired by the School Committee to fill the vacancy created when Charles LeClair resigned last October. Albert Estes Jr., who recently completed his studies at the University of Massachusetts, assumed his teaching duties at the school today. WILLIAMSTOWN -- Ralph Jones Jr., chief electrician’s mate, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Jones of 12 Manning St., is serving aboard the fleet oiler, USS Waccamaw, scheduled to complete her Mediterranean deployment in March. The Waccamaw replenishes combatant and supply ships and is part of the Sixth Fleet while she is in the Mediterranean.

ADAMS -- Local students have been named to the fall semester dean’s list at Fitchburg State College. To be placed on the dean’s list, students must have an average grade of 3.20 or better. Local students are Gary Blanchette of Adams, majoring in industrial arts; Laurie Favreau of Adams, majoring in English; Sarah McLaren of Adams, majoring in mathematics; and Robert Derosier III of Williamstown, majoring in business administration.

ADAMS -- Scott Huntington, son of Frederick and Janet Huntington of Stafford Hill Road, has been named to the dean’s list at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. for the 2002 fall semester.
A student is placed on the dean’s list for earning an average of 90 or above during the term. Huntington is a sophomore at Hamilton and graduated from Hoosac Valley High School, Cheshire.
NORTH ADAMS -- The McCann Tech girls’ basketball team beat Sabis Wednesday night, 44-40. Junior Captain Heather LaCasse nailed four big free throws in the final minute of play. She ended with 21 points. Maressa Gonzalez netted 13 points and Nina Reynolds scored nine.
