WILLIAMSTOWN -- Henry Flynt Jr. has been elected to the Board of Pine Cobble School Board of Trustees. He will fill the position on the board left vacant by the resignation of Mrs. Julian Sprague. He will also assume Mrs. Sprague’s duties on the committee on scholarships. Mr. Flynt is director of the Office of Student Aid at the college.

NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams sailor is aboard the world’s most powerfully armed guided missile cruiser, the USS Albany, now taking aboard supplies at Yorktown, Va., for a three-month Caribbean cruise to test her weapons and guidance systems.

He is Robert McConnell, son of Mr. and Mrs. John McConnell of 17 Montana St., who had been in the Navy since September, 1960.

25 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Elizabeth Ann Sudduth has received a permanent appointment as technical services librarian at Williams College. Her major responsibilities are to help develop goals and procedures for acquisition and cataloging operations, to perform original and copy cataloging of monographs, serials, and nonprint materials. Before coming to Williams, Ms. Sudduth was a librarian at Mt. Greylock Regional High School.

NORTH ADAMS -- Sean McGrath and Aaron Dupuis each scored 10 points as the Yellow Team beat the Black Team 37-33 in the Elementary Division of the Catholic Youth Organization Basketball League.

Joe Campedelli has nine points and Brian Millard added eight for the winners. For the Black Team, Chip Manuel scored 13 points, Greg King had 10 and Shayne Burdick added eight.

CHESHIRE -- The next generation of politicians from Hoosac Valley High School were honored at the 63rd annual Model Congress in Springfield for their debating skills and creating the "best bill." Debate team advisor Chris Vincent accompanied the students to American International College on Jan. 9 for the three-day events. Debate team members are Ashley Hugabone, Candace Morey, Josh Yurke, Hannah Giroux, Amanda Johnson, Amber Tulloch, Katrina Paczosa, Alicia Nichols, Christopher Patton and Michelle Grant.

READSBORO , Vt.-- Army Pvt. Peter Kulzer, son of Peter Kulzer of West Hill Drive, has graduated from the cable systems installer-maintainer advanced individual training course at Fort Gordon, Augusta, Ga. The soldier was trained to install, operate, and perform unit level maintenance checks and services on cable and wire communications systems, communications security devices and other associated equipment.
