Those who donate to volunteers soon will get a voice in naming a future Berkshire Carousel horse representing Adams and Cheshire.
The local group coordinator, Terri Cooper, said that letters go out soon, with $6,000 as the target sum needed to bring their vision, currently just a drawing, to life.
"We're just starting the process of raising money now," Cooper said. "It's going to be a black horse with a red blanket over it, decorated with pictures of Mount Greylock, the Cheshire Cheese Press and the Stafford Hill Monument."
Where most carousel horses are adorned with glass jewels, the Adams-Cheshire group has something different in mind.
"Instead of the glass jewels we're going to put Susan B. Anthony coins," Cooper said.
The total price tag is $9,000, and $3,000 has already been raised.
The total Berkshire Carousel project is a volunteer-driven effort headed up by nonprofit organizations. It involves the entire county, and has the goal of adorning a refurbished, 85-year-old carousel frame placed in the Berkshire Mall with an assortment of locally themed wooden horses. Hundreds are participating and a completion goal of July 1 was recently set.
Those wishing to donate toward the Adams-Cheshire contribution can make out checks to Berkshire Carousel and send them to Berkshire Carousel at the Berkshire Mall, P.O. Box 19, in Lanesborough.
