MEDFORD -- Every time Tufts made some noise, the Williams men's hockey team came right back with some of its own. In the end, it was the Ephs who made the most with five goals in a 5-3 conference win of the Jumbos on Friday night.
John Wickman gave Williams a two-goal lead early in the third, but Tufts drew within one with 7 minutes, 36 seconds left to play. Thirty-one seconds later, Williams had its two-goal cushion back. Nick Andrews found the back of the net for the final margin.
Andrews' tally was the third time the Ephs answered a Tufts goal less than a minute later with one of their own. Peter Mistretta's first-period tally came 59 seconds after Tufts opened the scoring. Alex DeBaere scored nine seconds after the Jumbos did late in the second to give Williams a 3-2 edge.
Sean Dougherty was strong in net for Williams, stopping 32 of 35 shots. His 14 in the third -- the most he had in a period -- kept Tufts from mounting a rally. Williams made the most of their shots at the other end, converting on 5 of 29.
The win keeps the Ephs in second place with a 8-2-1 NESCAC record.

Weinstein's goal came just 1:54 into the middle frame with the assists credited to Haena Lee and Gwendolyn Schultz. Williams needed to kill off two third-period penalties to keep the score tied.
Chloe Billadeau made 33 saves between the pipes for Williams, while her counterpart needed to make just 21.
The tie moves the Ephs (4-4-1) into a four-way tie for fourth place with nine points. Bowdoin is in second place with 15 points, three back of Middlebury but with two games in hand.
