Both the Drury and Hoosac Valley girls' basketball teams scored huge wins over Lee this week.
The Alpine and Nordic teams both had a tough week with the rain and warm weather canceling events for both sports.
This week's highlights: The Drury girls' basketball team moved within one-half game of tying Lee atop the North Division standings after a 47-37 win over the Wildcats, led by Danielle Racette's 18 points. ... Emily Rosse recorded another double-double for the Hoosac girls' in a win over Lee. ... Mount Greylock's Ross Jackson took home the 182-pound title at the Mountie Invite on Jan. 26 and helped his team to the county title on Jan. 29.
Mount Greylock Alpine
Look back: The Alpine teams just can't catch a break lately. This week's race was postponed because of the warm weather and rain.
Look ahead: They will try again on Feb. 4.
Drury boys' basketball
Look back: Nolan Bird scored 36 points for the Blue Devils this week, but it was only good enough for a 1-1 record. Drury topped Lenox on Jan. 30 but was handed a 55-47 loss by Monument on Feb. 1 as the road woes continued for the Blue Devils. Isiah Pantoja had 15 points in the win, but just three in the loss. The 72-55 win at Lenox was the first road victory this season for Drury.
Look ahead: The Blue Devils will host Taconic on Feb. 5 and travel to Pittsfield on Feb. 8.
Hoosac boys'
Look back: Hoosac's three-game win streak came to a hault against Mount Greylock on Feb. 1. Trevor Alibozek had 13 points in the loss; he also contributed 15 in a win over Monument on Jan. 29, giving him 28 for the week. Austin Milesi spured the victory with 12 points against the Spartans.
Look ahead: With just five games left on the schedule, the Hurricanes can't afford many more losses. Three more losses will effectivly eliminate them from postseason play. The tough stretch gets under way with Belchertown on Feb. 4. Wahconah comes to town on Feb. 8.
McCann boys' basketball
Look back: The Hornets are in the middle of a tough stretch and have now dropped three games in a row, including two at the last possible second. Josh Superneau scored 24 points in two games this week. In the first, Smith Vocational held off McCann 44-42, and in the second, Franklin Tech grabbed a 58-47 vicotry. Chad Raimer had 10 points in the Franklin loss.
Look ahead: A tough in-division stretch continues for the Hornets. They play Westfield Vocational on Feb. 5 and then host Pathfinder on Feb. 8.
Greylock boys' basketball
Look back: Tyler Picard scored 29 points in two games as the Mounties pushed their win streak to 10 games. The balanced attack continues as Greylock had all five starters reach double figures against Taconic on Jan. 29. In a win over Hoosac on Feb. 1, three players hit the double-digit mark.
Look ahead: The Mounties will look to protect their unblemished Berkshire County record with contests against Lenox and Lee this week.
Drury girls' basketball
Look back: The Blue Devils had a productive week in the North Division. On Jan. 26, Emily Moulton led the way over Monument, scoring 17 of her 23 points on the week. Danielle Racette led the way on Jan. 29 as the Blue Devils beat Lee for the first time since 2005. Racette contributed 18 points in the victory. Shannon Garvey had a big week, as well. She collected 22 points in the two games and recorded 10 rebounds against Lee.
Junior Morgan Lamarre returned to the lineup for the Blue Devils after missing nine games. The Blue Devils also punched their ticket to the Western Mass. tournament.
Look ahead: Another big week approaches for the Blue Devils. They host Lenox on Feb. 4 and then take on Wahconah on Feb. 7. Drury will have to beat Wahconah, Taconic, Pittsfield and Monument in the final two weeks of the season to keep pace in the North. To win the North, it will need a North team to beat Lee at least once, as well.
Hoosac girls' basketball
Look back: One game and one giant win for the Hurricanes. Emily Rosse had a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Meg Rodowicz chipped in 14 points for the South Division leaders. The Hurricanes have already secured a trip to the tournament.
Look ahead: Hoosac will host Pittsfield on Feb. 5 and then take on Mount Everett on Feb. 7. The Hurricanes have a one-game lead in the South over Lenox. The two teams meet in the final game of the year, Feb. 18 at Lenox.
McCann girls' basketball
Look back: It was a difficult week for the Hornets. Mary Nguyen scored 21 points this week, 11 in a 53-24 loss to Hampshire and 10 in a 55-28 loss to South Hadley.
Look ahead: The Hornets travel to Putnam on Feb. 7.
Greylock girls' basketball
Look back: Lucy Barrett poured in 26 points, but it wasn't enough for the Mounties to top Monument on Jan. 30 and Greylock's losing streak extended to four games. Barrett could only muster eight points against Pittsfield in a Jan. 28 loss.
Look ahead: The Mounties will attempt to rebound from a tough week against Taconic on Feb. 4, their only game of the week. One more loss will officially eliminate the Mounties from postseason play.
St. Joseph's hockey
Look back: Mike Bloom scored two goals to help the Crusaders to a 4-4 tie against Wahconah, snapping the Warriors' 27-game Berkshire County winning streak. Eric Leitch and Derek Romejko added the other goals.
Look ahead: The Crusaders don't get back on the ice until a Feb. 9 matchup with Taconic.
Wahconah hockey
Look back: Nick Montferret's third-period hat trick allowed the Warriors to pull out a 4-4 tie against St. Joseph's on Jan. 30. Ryan Ouimet had the other goal.
Look ahead: The Warriors hit the ice Feb. 2 against Taconic. They also have a Feb. 9 game against East Longmeadow. No makeup date has been announced for the Taconic game, which was postponed due to the weather on Jan. 28.
Nordic skiing
Look back: The league had its Jan. 26 race at Prospect Mountain canceled because it was going to be too cold.
Look ahead: Because of the warm rain that fell Jan. 30, the race scheduled for Feb. 2 was canceled. That means the league has not held a race since Jan. 19 at Prospect. The next race is scheduled for Feb. 9 at Notchview, although that is in serious jeapordy. The state championships are slated for Feb. 12 at Notchview with Prospect as the backup, but it's going to take a decent snow storm for that to happen on time.
Hoosac boys' swimming
Look back: Keith Pero earned victories in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke against St. Joseph's on Jan. 31. He was the only Hurricane to record wins, however, and the team fell 48-25.
Look ahead: The Hurricanes head to the Berkshire County individuals this weekend in Great Barrington for one last shot at qualifying for Western Mass.
Hoosac girls' swimming
Look back: The Hurricanes picked up a win in the final meet of the season against St. Joseph's. Julia Whitney, Emma Whitney, Liz Bernardy and Michaella Vecchiarelli all picked up two individual wins in the 57-36 victory.
Look ahead: The Hurricanes will have one final tuneup before Western Mass at the Feb. 2 County individuals.
Greylock wrestling
Look back: The Mounties won the Berkshire County title with a 47-21 victory over Monument on Jan. 29. Ross Jackson, Devon Pelletier and Travis Hilchey all earned wins by way of pins. Jackson was the 182-pound winner at the Mountie Invite on Jan. 26. The team put three wrestlers in the final, and seven in the semifinals.
Look ahead: The countdown to Western Mass begins. The Mounties will begin defense of their four-straight titles on Feb. 8.
