PITTSFIELD -- The Wahconah hockey team took control early, scored often, and clinched a Western Mass. Division III-A tournament berth with a 12-3 win over Mount Everret on Wednesday.
Wahconah mixed up its lines and started bigger scorers like Ryan Ouimet on defense, but still led 6-0 after one period and 11-1 after two.
Nine different players scored a goal for the Warriors. Jeff Hancock, David Senecal and Patrick Jamross each had two markers. Senecal had a five point night, as he added three assists to his totals. Jamross had two helpers, as well.
Roger Stedman made 12 saves to earn the victory.
Hoosac boys’ basketball
PITTSFIELD -- The Pittsfield boys basketball team punched its ticket to the Western Massachusetts Division I tournament by rallying to knock off Hoosac Valley 56-53.
Since losing a couple starters, the Generals have seen contribution up and down the lineup including Chad Shade (six points), Scott Steinman (four), Anthony Jones (two) and Matt Capeless.
Amancho Adopo had 20 points while Evan Lanoue added 18 in the win. Hoosac was paced by 17 from Trevor Alibozek -- but only four in the second half. Corey Puccio had 14 while Matt Braman added 13.
McCann boys’ basketball
DALTON -- Playing without three starters, the Hornets didn’t have an answer for Wahconah. The Warriors held McCann to just one point in the first quarter and
Marco Anastasio had 13 for Wahconah while Jono Bracci added 11. McCann was led by six from Josh Superneau.
T.J. Therrien, Mitch Zajac and Justin Cote were all unavailable for the Hornets.
"That hurts when you’re playing up," McCann coach Mike Nykorchuck said. "You can’t make excuses, but we had a lot of guys playing their first varsity game."
Rahmes Vincent, Mike Robinson and Dante Racette were all seeing their first action of the season. Cellana recorded two points, Robinson had four and Vincent contributed two points.
Greylock Alpine skiing
PITTSFIELD -- Taconic continued to dominate the top of the individual podium on Wednesday at Bousquet Ski Area.
Lauren Jones earned the girls slalom victory in 45.09 seconds while teammate Eamon Connor won the boys race in 39.18. Four Taconic girls finished in the top 10 to give the Braves another team win while the Monument Mountain boys won the team event led by Trent Pfeiffer in second (41.1).
Jennifer Evans was second in 45.28 while Emily Martin was third in 45.8.
Maria Giacoletto (sixth), Amanda Ely (seventh) and Alyssa Latimer (ninth) rounded out Taconic’s presence in the top 10. Monument was less than seven seconds behind the Braves in the team scores. Lenox’s Ella King rounded out the top five, finishing in 46.45.
The Monument boys had four in the top 12 to earn the win. Trevor McFarland joined Pfeiffer in the top 10, finishing sixth in 44.64. Pittsfield was second with Sean Keenan (fifth), Erich Maynard (seventh) and Garrett Dempsey (10th) all in the top 10.
Ryan Kuhn led Greylock in third (41.92). Ross Burnham took 16th and Evan Gurek took 18th for the Mounties, who finished in third as a team.
Abby Wiseman took 14th for the Greylock girls. She finished in a time of 53.78.
