CLARKSBURG -- A one-car accident shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday sent two to the hospital and closed River Road for about 20 minutes.

Clarksburg Police Chief Michael Williams said a Hyundai coupe driven by Nicole Langley-Lemieux, of Clarksburg, was traveling south on River Road when it went off the left side of the road into the embankment.

The car flipped onto its right side and slid down the road before coming to a rest in the northbound lane.

Williams said police are unsure at this time why the car went off of the road.

Though extrication tools were requested, Williams said, it didn't appear they were used to free the driver and one male passenger. Responders did however remove the windshield to access them.

Williams said Langley-Lemieux and the passenger were transferred to North Adams Regional Hospital. As of press time, Williams said he had no information on the injuries the driver and passenger sustained.

Clarksburg Police and Fire departments responded to the scene, along with North Adams police and fire departments and North Adams Ambulance Service.
