The MIAA canceled Saturday’s sectional swim meets and due to space and time restraints will skip the sectional level and skip right to the states next weekend.
With the major snow storm approaching the area, the county postponed or canceled most events to end the week. Western Mass. wrestling has been moved back until Feb. 15.
This week’s highlights: Mount Greylock’s Hank Barrett scored a season-high 24 points in a loss to Lee on Feb. 7. ... Nine Wahconah hockey players factored into the scoring on Feb. 6.
Greylock boys’ Alpine
Look back: The Mounties took to the slopes twice this week. On Feb. 4, Greylock had it’s worst finish of the year, coming in fifth place. Ryan Kuhn was the top Mountie, finishing third. The team rebounded on Feb. 6 in the second slalom of the season, coming in third. Kuhn again led the way with a third-place finish. Ross Burnham finished 16th and Evan Gurek took 18th for the Mounties.
Look ahead: The final slalom race of the season is scheduled for Feb. 11.
Greylock girls’ Alpine
Look back: A young Mountie squad continues its improvement on the season. Abby Wiseman finished 14th on Feb. 4. She finished 14th again on Feb. 6.
Look ahead: The season will come to a close on Feb. 11.
Drury boys’ basketball
Look back: The Blue Devils aren’t out of it yet, but they are walking
Look ahead: Drury will travel to Frontier on Feb. 12 and then host Hoosac Valley on Feb. 15.
Hoosac boys’ basketball
Look back: Corey Puccio had 29 points on the week, but the Hurricanes lost both games by three points. Belchertown topped the Hurricanes in overtime on Feb. 4 and Pittsfield dropped Hoosac 56-53 on Feb. 6.
Look ahead: One more loss will prevent the Hurricanes from finishing .500, but they do still have a chance of finishing second in the North, which would put them in. Hoosac hosts Greenfield on Feb. 11 and travels to Drury on Feb. 15.
McCann boys’ basketball
Look back: Playing without the service of three starters, the Hornets salvaged the week by beating Westfield Voc. 55-41 on Feb. 5. Josh Superneau led the way with 13 points and five steals. Anthony Duprat added 14 in the contest. The Hornets suffered loss No. 10 on the year against Wahconah on Feb. 6.
Look ahead: One more loss will doom the Hornets. The Hornets will look to avenge early-season losses against Dean Tech (Feb. 12) and St. Mary’s (Feb. 13). Both losses came at the buzzer. The Hornets will also play PVCS on Feb. 15.
Greylock boys’ basketball
Look back: The Mounties win streak came to end after 11 games, with a loss to Lee on Feb. 7. Hank Barrett had 24 points in the loss. He added 14 in a Feb. 5 win over Lenox. Tyler Picard scored 32 points on the week. Tyrell Thomas missed both games due to illness.
Look ahead: Greylock will look to get back on track against Mount Everett on Feb. 12. The Mounties can clinch the South Division title with a victory over St. Joseph’s on Feb. 15.
Drury girls’ basketball
Look back: Danielle Racette scored 29 points in two games to lead the Blue Devils to a 2-0 mark on the week. Emily Moutlon added 22 points in the contests.
Look ahead: The Blue Devils challenge New Leadership on Feb. 11. They round out the week by traveling to Taconic. The Blue Devils are just a half game out of the North Division lead. To tie Lee atop the North, Drury must beat Taconic, Pittsfield and Monument to close out the season and hope that Pittsfield can beat Lee on Feb. 13.
Hoosac girls’ basketball
Look back: The Hurricanes suffered a 42-30 loss to Pittsfield on Feb. 5. The team bounced back to keep control of the South Division with a victory over Mount Everett on Feb. 7. Amber Lesure led the way on Feb. 7 with 13 points.
Look ahead: The Hurricanes travel to St. Joseph’s and host Mount Greylock on Feb. 14. Wins in both games will clinch at least a share of the South Division title for the Hurricanes.
McCann girls’ basketball
Look back: Mary Nguyen scored 30 points in two games, but the Hornets dropped both games and their losing streak extended to four games.
Look ahead: The Hornets are still tied for first in the Bi-County which will get them in the tournament, but they will have to turn it around fast. They travel to Sci Tech on Feb. 11 and host Southwick on Feb. 14.
Greylock girls’ basketball
Look back: Lucy Barrett’s 20 points led the Mounties’ best offensive output in some time, but Taconic held them off for a 55-51 loss on Feb. 4. Margot Besnard had nine points in the contest.
Look ahead: The Mounties challenge Mount Everett on Feb. 11 and Hoosac on Feb. 14.
St. Joseph’s hockey
Look back: The Crusaders dropped a critical Hennessy League matchup against Taconic on Feb. 6, 3-2. Dan Flynn and Eric Leitch each had a goal and an assist in the loss.
Look ahead: The Crusaders hit the ice in the Hennessy League showdown on Feb. 16.
Wahconah hockey
Look back: The Warriors saw a very balanced attack in a 12-3 win over Mount Everett on Feb. 6. The win clinched a trip the Western Mass. Division III-A tournament. Nine different players scored in the win. David Senecal had five points.
Look ahead: The Warriors close the regular season with a contest against Chicoppe Comp. on Feb. 11 and then the Hennessy League showdown on Feb. 16.
Hoosac boys’ swimming
Look back: Keith Pero had the team’s best finish at the Berkshire County individuals meet on Feb. 2. He finished fourth in the 200 freestyle.
Look ahead: The season has come to a close for the Hurricanes.
Hoosac girls’ swimming
Look back: Julia Whitney picked up a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle and Liz Bernardy finished first in the 100 breaststroke at the Berkshire Individuals.
Look ahead: While the Western Mass. swim meet has been canceled, some Hoosac swimmers will continue their season. Liz Bernardy, Emma Whitney and Julia Whitney have qualified as individuals for states. Along with Michaella Vecchiarelli, those four make up the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams and will particpate at states.
Nordic skiing
Look back: The Nordic teams haven’t seen the trails in a couple of weeks. That will change this week.
Look ahead: The snow storm should help the season move along. The Feb. 9 meet is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Notchview. It will be the first race at Notchview this season.
Greylock wrestling
Look ahead: Both Western Mass. and states have been moved back a week due to the snow storm. The Mounties will be at Monument Mountain for Western Mass. on Feb. 15 and 16. Both Ross Jackson and Mitch Graves are the No. 1 seed in their weight class.
