NORTH ADAMS -- A Ludlow man crashed a box truck into Holy Family Terrace apartment complex on State Road early Monday morning, damaging vehicle and building but walking away without any injuries.
David A. Pederneira, 42, of Arnold Street in Ludlow will be charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation as a result of the accident, according to Monday's police blotter.
Police units, ambulance personnel and fire trucks responded to 611 State Rd. at 4:25 a.m., the record indicates. A neighbor reported the accident.
"The truck did cause some exterior as well as interior damage to the apartments but it didn't drive through the wall into the inside, it just struck it," Lieutenant John Paciorek of the city's fire department said Monday.
Paciorek said Berkshire Housing observed and sealed the damage Monday afternoon and will work with the building inspector on additional repairs.
Residents in and around the struck area chose to remain in their apartments.
National Grid also tended to damage caused by the crash, repairing several snapped guide wires on site Monday.
Pederneira was driving the truck, a 2012 Mitsubishi Fuso, for his employer Bernardino's Bakery, of Chicopee. Dean's Quality Auto & Truck towed the vehicle from scene.
According to a Dean's employee, damage to the truck included a broken windshield and grill, and the bakery sent a tow truck to recover it
A full police report was not available at press time, and Paciorek could not comment as to why Pederneira's vehicle left the road.
