WILLIAMSTOWN -- Francis Snide, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Snide of 2 Maple St., has been promoted to the rank of airman second class in the U.S. Air Force. Airman Snide was promoted for his exceptional performance of his duties, attitude, military bearing and appearance. He is a member of the 376th Field Maintenance Squadron at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Ohio.

NORTH ADAMS -- John Whitney, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Whitney of 73 Hall St., left last week for two years of active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve. The youth, who joined the Naval Reserve unit in Pittsfield last January, is taking his boot training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois.

ADAMS -- Selectmen chose the panel to serve on the search committee for a town administrator at their Wednesday meeting. They are Christine Bieniek, Todd Frederick, Stanley Fryc, Donald Graves, Richard Jette, Richard LaForest, William McLaren, Dominick Pappas, Bernard Pinsonneault, Thomas Robinson and Ellen Schiff.

NORTH ADAMS -- Two local girls won Western Mass. championships in the Elks Hoop Shoot competition and will be in Waltham Saturday bidding for a victory that could take them to the national championship. They are Amy Estes, 11, of Clarksburg, representing the North Adams Lodge of Elks, and Nicole Vallieres, 9, of Adams, representing the Adams Lodge of

CLARKSBURG -- Vermont State Police graduation exercises for the 75th State Police Recruit Orientation Class were held Friday, Feb. 7 at the Regional Training Institute at Camp Johnson. Local graduates are Frank LaBombard III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis LaBombard Jr. of Clarksburg and Jeffrey and Daniel Trudeau, sons of Dan and Marie Trudeau of Stamford, Vt.

READSBORO, Vt. -- Shawn Pikul, son of Nettie Joy of Readsboro and Francis Pikul of West Haven, Conn., has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing a bachelor’s degree at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. Fla. He is returning to active duty as an aircraft maintenance officer at Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Fla.
