NORTH ADAMS -- Albert Rose, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rose of 114 Eagle St., a cadet first lieutenant in the Air ROTC Unit at St. Michael’s College in Winooski Park, Vt., has been assigned to the position of assistant material officer for the cadet corps. He will serve in that capacity during the second semester. In the first semester he served as a flight commander. NORTH ADAMS -- Capt. John Benvenuti, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Benvenuti of 455 State St., has been presented the Air Force Commendation Medal. He is serving with the air force in Gioia, Italy. The medal was presented to him there for service he performed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio from Dec. 1, 1960 to June 30, 1962.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Mount Greylock boys’ cross country ski team placed second in the state. Members of the team are David Childs, John Kalisz, Jeff Goethals, Ken Ostrowski, Hal Evans, Michael Buckley, Bob Wolf, Thomas Case, Rod Corey, Alex Steele, Aaron Taylor, Ryan Corey and Chad Nunnery.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Robert Suderburg, professor of music and composer-in-residence at Williams College, will talk on "Sketches to Premiere: The Composition of a Concerto for Solo Percussionist and Orchestra." READSBORO, Vt. -- Kevin Whitham of 1059 Bailey Hill has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Whitham is a freshman majoring in electrical engineering and computer systems.

HEARTWELLVILLE, Vt. -- Mark Braman and Cyndi Candiloro recently opened an inspection station on Route 100 in Heartwellville. In addition to inspecting automobiles, trailers and motorcycles, the service station offers oil changes, brake repair, exhaust systems, tune-ups, small repairs and welding.
