FLORIDA -- Robert Burdick Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Burdick of Tilda Hill Road, was guest of honor at a family dinner held at his home Sunday. He will leave Friday for eight weeks of basic Army training at Fort Jackson, N.C., then attend school for his six months of active training. He then will return to the 1065th Transportation Co., North Adams National Guard, to complete his six years’ Army service. FLORIDA -- Bonnie Baker and Victoria Oleson were winners in the Berkshire County Demonstration contest in the 4-H Horse Club Division. Their demonstration was on "The Care of the Tack." Christy Alexander and Einar Oleson gave a demonstration on "Unsoundness of the Horse." All are members of the Happy Chaps Horse Club.

NORTH ADAMS -- Lisa Battory, daughter of Barbara Quirk of North Adams and Robert Battory of Adams, participated in a Hartwick College January Term program in Greece. The Hartwick sophomore is an art major. The four-week program offered an explanatory study of the civilization of ancient Greece, providing an opportunity to examine the important contribution which Greece has made to western Civilization.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williams College has announced the promotion of eight assistant professors to the rank of associate professor with tenure, effective July 1, 2003. They are Daniel Aalberts, physics; Denise Buell, religion; Ronadh Cox, geosciences; Antonia Foias, anthropology; Kathryn Kent, English; James McAllister, political science; Robert Savage, biology; and Kenneth Savitsky, psychology.
NORTH ADAMS -- The 15th Annual SIDS Cross Country Ski Race was held Feb. 23 at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vt. Local finishers were Larry Jowett and Terry Coyne of North Adams; Erin Beattie, Samantha Beattie, Eric Beattie and David Dethier of Williamstown; and Sam Blazejewski, Mike Blazejewski and Dan Demers of Adams.
