ADAMS -- William Swartzer, an eighth-grader at St. Joseph’s School, has been notified that he is one of four county youngsters who will appear on the televised Science Countdown contest. Swartzer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Swartzer of Columbia St., will appear on WBZ-TV, Boston on May 4. The grand prize winner will receive a one-year scholarship to Lowell Technological Institute. CHESHIRE -- The Hoosac Hose Company has elected Fred Lamb fire chief to succeed Charles Jepson, who served in that position for the past 55 years. Mr. Jepson did not seek re-election. Mr. Lamb, who is employed at Lamb’s Garage, has served with the department since 1948. He has been assistant chief for the past four years.

NORTH ADAMS -- Norman Immerman and Arthur Harrington, North Adams Public Schools Industrial Arts/ Technology Education instructors, have been selected to the state Task Force on Technology Education. The Drury High School instructors travelled to the Central Education Offices in Quincy on Feb. 24 for the first organizational meeting of task force representatives.

ADAMS -- Lori-Ann Lord, daughter of Jeanne Bordeau of 198 Columbia St. and James Lord of Fremont, Calif., has been named to the dean’s list with High Honors at Nichols College for the fall semester. She is a freshman majoring in accounting at Nichols, and is a

NORTH ADAMS -- Roger LaRocca Jr., son of Roger LaRocca Jr. and Joan LaRocca of North Adams, has been named to the dean’s list at Williams College for the fall semester. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must attain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0. LaRocca is a member of the Class of 2005, majoring in political science.

ADAMS -- Tara Wooley of Adams has been named to the dean’s list at Anna Maria College in Paxton for the fall semester. To make the dean’s list, a student must carry a full course load, earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and earn no grade lower than a B. Wooley is a junior majoring in environmental science.
