ADAMS -- Five applications were on file for the position of veterans service agent, which will be filled by the Board of Selectmen at a special meeting tomorrow in Town Hall. Seeking the position are Kathleen Carlow of 40 Summer St., Alexander Groves of 30 Maple St., Everett Newlands of 4 Fisk St., Frank Brown Jr. of 32 Notch Road, and Mary Scieszka of 8 Victory St. ADAMS -- Frederick Meichner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Meichner of 11 Richmond St., is at home after having received his honorable discharge from the Army with the rank of Army Specialist 4. Prior to ending his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal while serving with the 18th Infantry in Mannheim, Germany. He entered the service in March, 1961 and had his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J.

NORTH ADAMS -- Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class David Diaz, son of Harriet Diaz of 215 Kemp Ave., recently departed for a six month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, homeported in Norfolk, Va. A 1985 graduate of Drury Senior High School, Diaz joined the Navy in August, 1985.

POWNAL, Vt. -- Nine candidates have filed certificates of nomination for the two seats on the Board of Selectmen, both for one-year terms. Candidates whose names will appear on the ballot are: Herbert Armstrong, Elizabeth Baker, John Bushee, Judy

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Kaitlin Elias of 31 Berkshire Dr., a Union College Class of 2004 modern languages major, has received a scholarship award at the college. She received the Hans W. Munzer Scholarship, established from the gifts of Mrs. Grace Munzer and others, in memory of Hans Munzer, who was a member of the class of 1939. Elias graduated in 2000 from Mt. Greylock Regional High School.

NORTH ADAMS -- Todd Kuzia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Kuzia of North Adams, retired from the U.S. Air Force in the grade of master sergeant on March 1, having served faithfully and honorably for more than 20 years. He entered the USAF immediately after graduating from Drury High School in 1982.
