STAMFORD, Vt. -- Stamford Elementary School continued its school-wide Reading Celebration last week with a visit from Molly Meczywor’s senior English class at Drury High School in North Adams.

The Drury students were prepared with lessons and activities that they designed around the theme of "Freedom." Groups of three or more Drury mentors visited each of the classrooms with books to read and follow-up lesson activities.

The Stamford students drew pictures and wrote letters to U.S. servicemen and servicewomen who are defending our country’s freedom.

"The Drury students were outstanding in their presentations and expectations surrounding such an important topic and follow-up activity," Principal Gregory Betti said in the news release announcing the project. "Our students look forward to having the Drury mentors here every year."

This is the third year Meczywor and Katelyn Millard has brought the two schools together to celebrate reading and writing during the Reading Celebration week.
