NORTH ADAMS -- When all of your hits go for extra bases, you're typically in position for a win. The Blue Devils were, but then Pittsfield's Aoife Nester drilled a three-run home run over the center field fence and the Generals went on to beat the Blue Devils, 8-4.
"The air was very conducive to the ball flying today," Drury coach Mary Ann Maroni said. "I knew it right when we were hitting soft-toss."
Nester's long ball came in the fifth inning with her team leading 3-2. She finished 2 for 3 with a walk and three RBI. Aiding the Generals' cause was Allie Hunt, who was 3 for 4 with two RBI.
"We came out strong, hitting the ball really well," Maroni said, adding the Blue Devils made four errors, two of which came in the outfield. "Pittsfield took advantage of it. They hit the ball and you can't take the credit away from them."
Sarah Rayner earned the win in the circle for Pittsfield with nine strikeouts to just one walk.
The Blue Devils had four extra-base hits (one double and three triples). Laryssa LaPointe led the way with one of each.
