CLARKSBURG -- The Clarksburg Council on Aging held its monthly meeting on June 9 at the Senior Center.
Lily Kuzia presided with all members present.
The secretary's minutes and treasurer's reports were read and approved.
The speaker for the June breakfast on Tuesday, June 30 will be a hearing specialist. He will be at the center from 9:30 to11:30 a.m. Hostesses for the breakfast are Liana Knox and Jean Bryce.
The Aladdins will be on hand at the picnic to entertain.
The next meeting is July 14.
Stamford Seniors to hold summer picnic Friday
STAMFORD, Vt. -- The Stamford Senior Citizens Group will hold its summer picnic on Friday, beginning at 11 a.m., at the Stamford School.
Hot dogs, hamburgs, rolls, condiments and beverages are provided by the club. Bring a dish to share with the group.

Business, professional women to meet tonight
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Northern Berkshire Business and Professional Women's group will close its FY09 meeting schedule tonight at the Williams Inn.
New President Dorothy L. Ransford has decided to close the season with a garden party theme so the meeting's topic will focus on gardening tips and the art of floral arranging.

TOPS MA187 honors chapter's KOPS members
NORTH ADAMS -- TOPS MA187 held its weekly meeting on June 15 at the Greylock Community Club.
Losha Daub was honored as TOPS best loser.
A new contest by Shirley Davis will start next week.
Inspirational thoughts were given by Chris Pearson. The program was honoring the chapter's three KOPS.
The dime game winner was Daub.
New members welcome. Weigh-ins are on Mondays from 5 to 6 p.m. with the meeting following. The first meeting is free. All are welcome.
Cheshire Seniors hold monthly luncheon
CHESHIRE -- The Cheshire Seniors Club meeting held on June 10 was brought to order by Anna Farnams, president.
The roll call was given by Gloria Rolland, recording secretary. Theresa Dragon, chaplain, welcomed everyone and led the members in the Lord's Prayer, salute to the flag, and club song.
Reports read by Rolland and treasurer Ruth Hutchinson were accepted as read. Thoughts for the day were given by Hutchinson, Bernie Giroux and Rolland.
The Cheshire Cheese was won by Dragon. Raffle winners were Harry Russell, Rolland, Norma Jamros, Pauline Kulas, Phyllis Sanderson and Betty Cobb.
The Cheshire Seniors held their monthly dinner at Matt Reilly's restaurant. It was attended by 12.
The quarter raffle was won by Rolland. The door prize was won by Jamros. Money prizes went to Giroux, Farnams, Rolland and Helen Dargie. Card bingo winners were Dragon, Rolland and Severina Belini.

TOPS MA229 hears talk by dietitian
NORTH ADAMS -- TOPS MA229 met on June 10 with 12 members weighing in. The best TOPS loser of the week was Faith Will. The best KOPS were Nancy LaFrance and Phil Lescarbeau.
The inspirational readings were by Hope Ican and Arlene Perras. The program for the evening was a presentation by Jamie Tudor, dietitian at the North Adams Regional Hospital.
The calorie sheet winner was Nancy LaFrance.
TOPS MA229 meets every Wednesday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the American Legion Hall.

Attorney addresses Triad about elder abuse
NORTH ADAMS -- The Triad meeting in recognition of National Elder Abuse Day was held on June 15 at 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion.
The secretary and treasurer's reports were read and accepted.
Compassionate Care Home Health will donate 500 Files of Life to Triad. Compassionate Care representative Denise Vigna plans on coming to the meetings.
Guest speaker Attorney James Sisto talked about the many ways of elder abuse. Information was passed out to all members and there was a question-and-answer period.
Mayoral candidate Richard Alcombright was present. District Attorney David Capeless was also present and expressed how pleased he is with all that Triad does.
The Triad picnic will be Aug. 26 at the Spitzer Center. There are committees to sign up for.
The next refreshment committee will be Hazel Sacco, Nancy Patenaude, Orella Robare and Marie Davis.
The next meeting will be on July 22 at 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion. The guest speaker will be Alcombright.
Legion Auxiliary names poster contest winners
POWNAL, Vt. -- American Legion Auxiliary Pownal Post 90 has announced the winners of its annual Poppy Poster contest. Over 225 children at the Pownal Elementary School participated in the contest.
The Memorial Day ceremony was held Friday, May 28, at the school. Mrs. Crawford's first-grade class led the program with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the PES Band and Chorus playing "The Star Spangled Banner." A Memorial Day reading was done by Sierra Skorupski. "The Armed Forces Medley," arranged by Jack Bullock, was performed by the PES Chorus under the direction of the music teacher, Colleen Partenope. This was a tribute to all the servicemen and Veterans. The PES Band then performed the John Phillip Sousa march, "The Thunderer." Two poems, "The Flag Song and Peacewere recited by Mrs. Strange's fourth-grade class.
A reading on Poppies and Memorial Day by Josh Bicking followed.
The Pownal American Legion Ladies Auxiliary presented the Poppy Poster Contest winners with cash prize awards. Poppies were presented to David Hasz; kindergarten: Jada Sorel; first grade: Evan Burrington; second grade: Jeanna Thompson; third grade: Madelyn Kocsis; fourth grade: Areiana Taylor; fifth grade: Nikolas Todd; sixth grade: Logan Belville; Auxiliary Post 90; honorable mention: Amber Marcoux; grand prize: Faith Wilkins.
The Gettysburg Address was recited by Ms. Whalen's sixth-grade class. Taps followed with trumpeters April Foley, Nicole Snow, Evan Haley and Leah Olansky.
The program concluded with the PES Band playing "America the Beautiful," directed by Partenope.
