ADAMS -- The Youth Center, Inc. serving the communities of Adams, Cheshire and Savoy announces its summer activity schedule:

CATCH Physical Fitness -- Youth will learn to identify, practice, and adopt healthy eating and physical activity habits. This program will reinforce such every-day notions as proper nutrition, physical fitness, and teamwork. Free.

Garden Club -- Join Jennifer Munoz of REACH for Community Health planting, maintaining, and harvesting the garden beds at the Community Center in Adams. Free, fresh, local, organic veggies for all involved. Free.

Friendly Peersuation -- Developed by Girl's Inc., this program offers girls aged 11 to 14 the opportunity to train with adult leaders through a series of hands-on activities addressing peer and media pressures, responsible life decisions, and the effects of substance abuse. Free to all.

Science Exploration Sessions -- The YC's programming coordinator, Dave Ciempa, will lead weekly explorations of different scientific concepts. Expect hands-on activities and excitement in every session. Free.

Youth Chorus -- Alma Schilling, former director of the North Adams Heptones, invites all youth who enjoy singing and having fun with music to come. There will be a concert in the fall. Free.

Clay Workshop -- Join local potter Stephanie Vidmosko in an exploration of the materials, tools, techniques, and tricks involved in working with clay.,Participants will have fired pieces to bring

home. $2 per session, or $15 for the whole summer.

Sign Language Class -- Taught by member mother Dione LeBeau, this class will provide first-hand experience with American Sign Language (ASL). $2 per session, or $15 for the whole summer.

Woodworking Workshop -- zyouth will have the opportunity to construct works of art out of wood. Call for pricing.

Karate -- Join certified instructor Bill Mickeljohn for karate lessons. These classes are open to all 6 and older. Try out the class for free, if you like it, 10 sessions are $60 for non-members and $50 for members.

The Youth Center's drop-in program is a fun, safe and supportive learning environment for young people ages 9 and older. Facility includes access to pool table, air hockey, television, video games, board games, lending library, and lounge area, soda and snack vending machines, and a supervised computer lab.

Field trips are being planned to tour local landmarks such as Tannery Falls and Balance Rock. Also in the works is a trip to the Southwick Zoo in Mendon. Vist the center's Web site for updates and dates/times.
