PITTSFIELD -- The Berk shire Regional Transit Auth ority’s annual holiday campaign to offer free transit rides for a contribution to assist the community will again benefit Soldier On, the local organization assisting homeless veterans.
Any new, unwrapped, in original packaging contribution of personal care items, jackets, hats or gloves, gift cards, writing paper, pens and stamps, or nonperishable food items will be accepted on any BRTA bus instead of the regular fare through Dec.15.
To see a complete wish list of the most needed items, visit the Soldier On website: www.wesoldieron.org/donate, or contact the BRTA operations department at 413-499-2782, ext. 1, for additional information.
During the two-week drive last year, 637 passengers don ated to this cause and received a free one way bus ride.
Festively decorated collection bins will be placed on all buses during the two week campaign. Donations will be accepted at the BRTA offices at the Inter modal Transpor tation Center on Columbus Avenue or 67 Downing Parkway.
All donations received by the BRTA will be given to Soldier On to redistribute to homeless veterans within the community before the holidays.
