Portrait of the Artist

Melissa Matsuki Lillie is a North Adams-based painter whose work is inspired by microscopic and macroscopic views of geology, creating abstract landscapes in the process. This inspiration from natural geometry has been expanded for her mural project, "That's Gneiss!," on the corner of Holden Street and Main Street, which has her looking to formations found in the materials crafted from metamorphic rocks that comprise the buildings of North Adams.
