ADAMS -- The town stands to gain $292,975 in state Chapter 90 state highway funds for road repairs, should a $200 million Chapter 90 transportation-funding bill filed by Gov. Deval Patrick receive a stamp of approval from the state Legislature.
At the Selectmen's meeting Wednesday, Selectman Chair Arthur Harrington said the sum was proposed to keep state and municipal roads safe and was part of a potential $200 million statewide distribution.
"It's a substantial increase, and hopefully it goes through," Harrington said.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the figure is more than $60,000 higher than what the town received last year.
Harrington also announced that East Road would close for two days next week for workers to finish repairs to the culvert.
The road closing begins Tuesday, April 10, at 7 a.m. and is expected to continue until Thursday, April 12, at 8 a.m.
Last August, Tropical Storm Irene devastated a section of the road, which did not reopen until January. Though the road is passable, remaining work entails smoothing out a rough patch and some repaving.
In other business at the meeting:
* Annual town meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, June 26 at 7 p.m., at C.T. Plunkett Elementary School. Residents wanting to add warrant articles to the ballot must present the signatures of at least 10 registered voters to Town Hall before May
* Town Counsel Edmund St. John III reported that he had completed drafts for easement agreements with the businesses along the stretch of the proposed extension of the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail from Hoosac Street to Lime Street. St. John said the drafts would be submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation for approval next week.
* Resident Carrie Loholdte was approved for the position of part-time animal control officer. A number of other Adams residents were also approved for seasonal positions with the Department of Public Works.
* Resident Jeffrey Lefebvre announced that the Maple Grove Civic Club is hosting a Selectmen's candidate forum Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m., at the PNA.
