WILLIAMSTOWN -- A host of Broadway talent and a number of recognizable film and television stars will appear on the Williamstown Theatre Festival's stages throughout the summer, including Heather Lind, Elena Shaddow, James Cromwell and the previously announced Kate Burton.
The festival's 58th season kicks off June 26 with the opening of "Animal Crackers" on the Main Stage and "American Hero" on the Nikos Stage.
"Animal Crackers," a new take on the classic Marx Brothers hit Broadway musical, runs through July 14 and features a cast of actors making their festival debuts, though they bring some impressive resumes.
The cast includes Jonathan Brody, who has appeared on Broadway in "Monty Python's Spamalot" and "Titanic," as well as the off-Broadway "Naked Boys Singing;" Adams Chanler-Berat, of Broadway's "Peter and the Starcatcher;" Mara Davi, who recently appeared on television's "Smash" and in the movie "New Year's Eve;" and Renée Elise Goldsberry, who has appeared as Olivia Warner on Fox's "The Following" and as Geneva Pine on "The Good Wife."
Also included in the cast are Ellen Harvey, of Broadway's "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and "Phantom of the Opera;" and Jacob Ming-Trent, who recently finished a run as Ronald McCowan in "Hands on a Hardbody."
On the Nikos Stage, Ari Graynor will make her festival debut in the world premier of Bess Whol's "American Hero," which runs through July 7. Graynor, who most recently appeared on Broadway in "The Performers," has appeared in numerous films, including "Mystic River," and the comedy "The Sitter" with Jonah Hill, and on television as Caitlin Rucker on HBO's "The Sopranos" and on Fox's "Fringe."
She'll appear alongside Erin Wilhelmi, who recently appeared in the 2012 film, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower;" and Josh Stamberg, a former WTF non-Equity company member who recently appeared in the film "Dark Skies" and played Jay Parker on "Drop Dead Diva."
Lind, who appeared opposite Blythe Danner in last summer's "The Blue Deep" returns on the Main Stage this season as Eliza Doolittle, opposite the previously announced Robert Sean Leonard as Henry Higgins, in "Pygmalion," running July 17-27.
Lind, who debuted on Broadway opposite Al Pacino in "The Merchant of Venice," will be directed by former WTF Artistic Director Nicholas Martin. The cast also included Paxton Whitehead, who appeared as Col. Pickering opposite Richard Chamberlain in the 1993-1994 Broadway production of "My Fair Lady," the musical version of "Pygmalion," along with Patricia Conolly and Don Lee Sparks.
Burton, a festival favorite, will appear on the Nikos Stage in Tom Stoppard's Cold War thriller, "Hapgood," which also stars James Cromwell. The show runs July 10-21.
Cromwell, who recently played Dr. Arthur Arden on "American Horror Story," has also appeared in "The Green Mile," "L.A. Confidential," and "Babe." They'll be joined by Jason Butler Harner, who appeared in television's "Alcatraz" and in WTF's "The Front Page;" Jake Weber, who played Joe Dubois on "Medium" and also appeared in the 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead," and Victor Williams.
Shaddow, whose Broadway credits include "La Cage Aux Folles" and "Les Miserables," replaces the previously announced Kelli O'Hara as Francesca in "The Bridges of Madison County." O'Hara, who was originally set to star opposite the previously announced Steven Pasquale, is expecting her second child this summer.
Rounding out the cast of the world premiere musical, which plays on the Main Stage Aug. 1-18, are Nick Baily, of "Hit the Wall;" Cass Morgan; Whitney Basho; and Caitlin Kinnunen, of Broadway's "Spring Awakening."
The new musical "Johnny Baseball," which runs on the Nikos Stage from July 24 to Aug. 3, will star Tony Award-winning actor Roger Robinson; James Snyder, who made his Broadway debut in the title role of "Crybaby" in 2008; and Burke Moses, who appeared as Bulge Hackman on the daytime soap "One Life to Live," from 1992 to 2008.
