Wacky World Warriors is a non-profit, grass-roots organization in Adams that's devoted to giving our children a safe place to play. We are parent volunteers, business owners and community members who want to repair, and eventually replace, Wacky World playground at C.T. Plunkett Elementary School.
Twenty years ago, the Adams community came together to build a wooden playground that's brought many hours of enjoyment to children and their families. Today, Wacky World is in a state of disrepair. Painful splinters, rusty metal, broken slides, and even insect infestation have resulted in student injuries.
During the last school year, Wacky World became so unsafe that our children could no longer use it during the school day. If our community does nothing this summer, our kids won't have a place to play when school starts in September. Long-term, we need to replace the playground -- at an estimated cost of $50,000 to $70,000. That's a lot of money even when times are good, but we have to start somewhere and we need to start now.
Next week, Wacky World Warriors will hold a 50/50 raffle and bottle drive at Hi Jinx Night in Adams. During the Adams Agricultural Fair (Aug. 1 to 4), we will hold a Chinese auction and another 50/50 raffle. Please look for us at these events and visit us there.
You can also make a financial contribution to Wacky World Warriors at Adams Community Bank or join us on Saturday, Aug. 10, when we make some safety-related repairs. Any additional funds will be held toward the eventual replacement of Wacky World with new playground equipment.
Wacky World Warriors and the children of our community thank you in advance for your generosity. Together, we can give our kids a safe place to play both for this school year and for many years to come.
Steve Melito is the co-chairman of Wacky World Warriors. He can be reached at wacky email@example.com.
