Representatives of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation have announced that Route 2 from North Adams to Florida has been reopened, but only on a limited basis.

According to MassDOT spokesman Michael Verseckes, Route 2 is open from North Adams up to mile marker 19 near Brown's Garage in Florida. A mobile traffic light has been set up to allow for alternating, one-way traffic.

Drivers are told to seek alternate routes eastbound from there and MassDOT does have a truck detour set up that follows Route 112 to Route 9.

Verseckes said there was a major slope failure by Dead Man's curve and that the bridge at the Florida town line has been severely damaged by flood waters and is currently impassible.

Route 2 beyond mile marker 19 is essentially closed to eastbound traffic until mile marker 27.5 due to another slope failure caused by a mudslide east of the bridge into Savoy.

The intersection of Routes 112 and 2 is also impassable and traffic is being told to seek alternate routes.
