What a great article [Friday, Sept. 28 Transcript article on 1952 Fall Foliage Festival queen and court] and how I wish I could be there!
It’s been several years since I was home for the Fall Foliage Parade, but I did make it a few years ago and spent time with Joe Manning, as well. I saw every parade through 1961, when I left North Adams to "become a Southerner," returning for a fall visit the next few years. I remember a young Sen. Jack Kennedy walking down Main Street (not sure what year) and I remember Silvio Conte riding in an open convertible. The Drury High School band was always there. And I remember the contest where we had to figure out the clues ... and I actually won a prize. Tommy King was in charge.
What a wonderful surprise to see [1952 Fall Foliage Festival queen] Barbara (Roberts) Marceau’s picture! We worked together in the sales office at Sprague Electric. I worked for Joe Mucha and sat right behind her and her boss, Brewster Barry.
Others there were Madeleine Rougeau, Pat McCann, Nancy Barber, Silvia Borowski, Carol Burdick Severin, Peggy O’Neill, Joan Farinon, Ada Regaioli and some whose names I can’t think of at the moment. The head of the department was Neil Welch. I still have a picture from one of our Christmas parties and one with Barbara taken at the wedding of the late Lorne Parisien and Mary Lou Green. The year would have been 1952 or 1953.
At Christmastime, Mr. (Robert)
