Most of us know the importance of tourism to the area. Unfortunately, at a recent meeting of the North Adams City Council, the council failed to discuss the communication sent by this writer asking it to look into how it could assist in making the Office of Tourism more effective.
Fortunately though, the council did refer the matter to the office of the mayor, who has informed me he intends to hold a meeting in January to discuss the issue, along with how the new Chamber of Commerce would fit into the equation of providing a broader scope for improving the tourism and tourist-related events.
Hopefully, this meeting will be instrumental in increasing the effectiveness and productivity of the Office of Tourism, which has been limited by a lack of resources and manpower, and consequently has been unable to work to its full potential in getting our story out to the rest of the world.
For us, tourism has and will continue to be a prime economic industry which will drive the economic life of the area. Let us hope that effective and workable solutions will emerge from the January meeting.
