The Williamstown Town Democratic Committee has resolved unanimously to encourage the candidacy of Congressman Ed Markey for the seat vacated by U.S. Sen. John Kerry, should Sen. Kerry be confirmed in his appointment as Secretary of State.
In view of Congressman Markey’s outstanding record on issues of concern to us -- especially his nationwide leadership on matters relating to energy, the environment and climate change -- we would welcome his election to the U.S. Senate and pledge to work hard to achieve it.
In addition, we also unanimously consider former Congressman Barney Frank to be the ideal person to fill the role of interim U.S. senator, and urge Gov. Deval Patrick to appoint him to this position.
