I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to the North Adams 21st Century Program, its Director Noella Carlow and the North Adams Public Schools administration for providing a wonderful and extensive six-week summer science camp program to the children of North Adams.
Every day, the students are going somewhere different and gaining new experiences. My own children often come home very excited to talk about their daily adventures in science camp. I can only imagine the time it takes to plan these daily trips for over 300 kids. The children are going to such places as local farms, the fish hatchery, Wedgewood Horse Farm and the Boston Aquarium, as well as Woodford, Savoy and Clarksburg State Parks. This is just to name a few.
This program also provides the students with hands-on learning, visits from guest presenters and extensive off-campus learning activities. With all these activities and adventures, the students are given a multitude of opportunities to stay active during the summer months, as well as a gaining social skills and making new friends.
During this entire program, children are picked up daily, receive both breakfast and lunch free of charge, and then transported home at the end of each day. I hope the parents in our community truly understand the great opportunity that our kids have been provided by the North Adams Public Schools and Ms. Carlow, without any cost to the parents. Thank you for all you do for the children of our city.
