Coach: Jay Sniezek (15th year)
Last year: 7-9
Key returnees: Keith Pero, Sr.; Mike Barnes, Jr.; Matt Burdick, Jr., Ty Clark, Jr.; Mike Lemanski, Jr.; Eric Sniezek, Jr.
The Hurricanes are coming off a down season, failing to qualify for the Western Mass. tournament because of a few one- or two-stroke losses. They also graduated their best player, who was also the best player in Berkshire County.
Chad Alibozek claimed the Berkshire Classic for the third time in four years, finished second at Western Mass. and fifth at states. They'll need someone else to assume the No. 1 spot for 2013.
Hoosac does return a core group to choose from, however. The top six players are all upperclassmen, and Jay Sniezek said that's the team's biggest strength. Those players -- Pero, Barnes, Burdick, Clark, Lemanski and Sniezek -- will be vital to the team achieving its goal of returning to the tournament. Pero, Barnes, Clark and Burdick will be leading the way, as they have the most varsity experience, each playing most matches in 2012.
The Hurricanes will be tested every time out on the course against one of their division foes. Consistent play in the season's first few matches will give them a jump start toward qualifying for Western Mass. It's something Hoosac struggled with last year, but the Hurricanes settled down after about four or five matches and gave themselves a chance to qualify.
