The Spartans are riding a wave of recent success into the 2013 season. They qualified for the Western Mass. tournament each of the last two years.
They look poised for another playoff run this season.
Despite the losses of two regulars -- Dan Meandro and Olivia Grochmal -- Monument returns a core that has Kinne confident. The four seniors and junior that return for their final season are veterans, all integral parts of the last two teams.
"If they're consistent, they'll make up for whatever we've lost," Kinne said.
Should the injury bug bite the Spartans like it did last season, they have some underclassmen waiting in the wings. Sophomores Dylan Buffoni and Aaron Coon may even challenge for a regular spot. Kinne said their naivete works in their favor; they just go out and play the game.
Kinne cited better play during away matches as a must for his team to make another playoff run. Monument travels north to both Drury and Hoosac Valley this year, two courses he said his guys don't have much experience with.
"They're experienced kids. If they understand what it's going to take, they could be a pretty decent team," he said. "There are some really good teams in the league."
