Coach: Blair Mahar (6th year)
Last year: 11-5-0
Key returnees: Courtney Hayer, Sr. Sweep.; Megan Rodowicz, Sr. MF; Megan Richardson, Jr. GK; Jen Gale, Sr. Stop.
As Mahar enters his sixth season at the helm in Cheshire, he said this might be the deepest team he's ever fielded.
The Hurricanes had a girls' soccer-record 34 come out for the team and he's keeping 16 on the varsity.
Hoosac has a trio of senior captains who have played practically every minute since they were freshmen. Hayer (sweeper), Rodowicz (midfielder) and Gale (stopper) have plenty of experience.
Rodowicz is the top returning scorer for the Hurricanes and has been a central midfielder since her freshman year.
Hayer and Gale have been key factors on the Hoosac defense for the preceding three seasons. Both are strong, physical players.
Danielle Beauchemin scored 13 goals last year. Beauchemin has graduated, so Mahar will look for some secondary scoring. That's because he expects freshman Lily Kronick (2g) to pick up where she left off a year ago. Mahar said he doesn't like to play eighth-graders, but had to move Kronick up. She responded by being the team's third-leading scorer in only eight games.
Junior goalie Megan Richardson, who plays for the Massachusetts Junior Olympics development team, returns for her third year in goal. Mahar said she is athletic enough that if she didn't play goal, she could play striker.
