Coach: John Flynn (4th year)
Last year: 4-16
Key returnees: Courtney Luscier, Sr. Sweep.; Lindsey Curry, Sr. Stop./MF; Angela Pannesco, Sr. MF; Lisa Laughnane, Sr. F.
There are nine starters back, all seniors, for the Braves. For Flynn, this is only the third time in his 17 years of coaching (13 years with the Taconic boys) that he has had that many returning veterans.
Add to that mix, a move down into the new Division III (the old Division II), and there is reason for optimism on Valentine Road.
Taconic's four captains - Luscier, Curry, Pannesco and Laughnane - will provide extensive leadership while Luscier and Curry will anchor the defense. That is important because while the Braves have nine starters back, none of those nine played goalkeeper last year.
Freshman Brooke Mangiardi, sophomore Tori Serre and junior Alex Zuber are all in the goalkeeping mix. The latter two are new to soccer, but Flynn described both as being very athletic.
Flynn said that as far as offense is concerned, he is expecting a few goals from a lot of different players. Among those who could put the ball in the net are senior forward Katherine Barry, junior midfielder Rachel Donahue and junior Gillian Campbell, who plays center midfield and forward.
The Taconic coach said his team's goal is to qualify for Western Mass., and he said that this group has the potential to do that.
