Coach: Kyle Zinchuk (1st year)
Last year: 14-5-2
Key returnees: Josie Marshall, Sr. M; Lydia Graham, Sr. D/MF; Maggie Bouvier, Sr. D; Allie Connell, Jr. D; Julia King, Jr. D; Grace Fitzgerald, Jr. F/M; Allesandra Arace, Soph, F; Tova Brown, Fr. F.
There will still be a Zinchuk in maroon and gold this year. As Hayden Zinchuk heads off to college, her brother Kyle replaces Matt Cote as the head coach. Kyle is a former soccer player at Lenox.
The first-year coach is stepping into a huge shadow as the Millionaires are the two-time defending Western Massachusetts Division III champion.
Helping to ease the transition is a strong core of experienced veterans. Headlining that group are junior defender Connell, senior midfielder Marshall and sophomore forward Arace. Marshall and Arace were both All-Eagle First Team selections.
They'll need to provide guidance for a big group of rookies, and they each have a skill set the rookies can emulate. Zinchuk said Connell's tenacity on defense, Marshall's - who converted from the outside to the center midfield last year - distribution and Arace's (13 goals) speed and creativity are all skills the inexperienced players can watch and learn from.
Zinchuk said communication will be key. He's not looking for it to stay within the lines, though. He wants to see it continue off the field because he knows it will be vital to working through "growing pains as players adjust to new roles and learn what it takes to be successful at the varsity level."
