Coach: Ricky Kovacs (1st year)
Last year: 11-8-0
Key returnees: Charlie Crall, Jr., F; Mike Peplowski, So., M; Shaun Parzick, Jr., GK.
First-year coach Kovacs inherits a young team that must replace key players from a team that reached the Western Mass. Division III tournament last season.
The nephew of longtime Wahconah head coach John Kovacs must replace the seven seniors that are gone from last year's team. The young Crusaders must replace the second leading scorer in the county, Matt Begrowicz, and his 28 goals. The 18 goals from the fifth-leading scorer in the county, Jongmun Hong, must be replaced as well. Also gone from last year's team is Collin Anderson, who was third in the county with nine assists. Kovacs will look to several underclassmen to fill the voids that were left as a total of five sophomores will be in the starting lineup - half of the field players - to start the season.
The Crusaders will lean on the midfield-forward combination of Crall and Peplowski to provide scoring. Peplowski tied for the most assists in the county with 11 in 2012.
Parzick is back as the goalkeeper for his junior season.
Kovacs said what his team is lacking in depth, it makes up for with quality at each position. Look out for the new coach and his young team as they try to return to the Western Mass. tournament.
