Coach: Todd Hamilton (5th year)
Last year: 1-11
Key returnees: Justin Schneider, Sr.
More than half of the runners on last year's roster were first-time cross country runners, so 2012 was a learning experience for the Hornets. That certainly isn't the case for Schneider, the lone senior runner on the McCann roster.
Hamilton expects Schneider to be the team's top runner, but also expects sophomore Lukas Yelle to challenge him for that spot. "They both dedicated themselves over the summer and appear to be in line for the top two spots," Hamilton said.
McCann's strength is certainly in its sophomore class when it comes to numbers. Jerry McCarthy, one of those sophomores, is one of the top young returners who Hamilton expects to at least be in the top three, if not challenging for one of the top two spots outright.
Junior Billy Rivard joins the Hornets team for the first time, having been a "roadrunner" in the past, as Hamilton describes him. McCann Tech also adds transfers Cameron Anderson from Hoosac Valley and Chris Santella from Mount Greylock. Both are sophomores this year.
They'll find that it's a little different to run at McCann than it is to run at any other Berkshire County school. After all, the teams in the Berkshires usually don't see McCann until the end of the season.
"These additions will have to adjust to racing on Tuesdays instead of the typical Wednesdays Berkshire County teams race on," Hamilton said. "Once the schedule and terrain differences are [adjusted], I think we will have a solid team."
