Coach: Scott Burdick (12th year)
Last year: 13-2
Key returnees: Carter Stripp, Jr.; Sam Kobrin, Jr.; Jake Kobrin, Jr.; Will Nolan, Jr.; Archer Greenhalgh, Sr.; Tommy Kirby, So.
You want depth? Burdick's Mounties - defending Western Mass. Division II champions - have it in the junior class alone. The Greylock roster lists a dozen 11th graders.
Stripp could be the best of them, not to mention one of the best runners in Berkshire County, but he'll certainly be pushed by other runners in Greylock red and white. Kirby, Nolan and the Kobrin brothers give Greylock a formidable scoring group with Stripp, and that's going to make the Mounties hard to beat in duals.
"Right after Carter, I've got Will Nolan, Sam and Jake Kobrin ... these are all kids who ran Western Mass. last year, when we won," Burdick said. "They started in seventh grade, and they just had a really good nucleus. ... Now that they're older and stronger, they're very tough."
Stripp had visions of state-qualifying performances as an up-and-coming runner, and expects everything to click this year.
"I noticed [our talent] my freshman year," he said. " 'Wow, this class is really good. Junior and senior year, it's going to be really strong.' It's still surprising to me sometimes."
Behind those five, many on the roster seem to think junior John Driver will surprise a few runners throughout the fall.
