Coach: Tom Keefe (2nd year)
Last year: 9-4
Key returnees: Jackson Alberti, Sr.; Marcus Duncan, Sr.; Ryan McMahon, Jr.; Kevin Kowalczyk, Sr.
Wahconah's roster has, according to Keefe, doubled in size from this time last year. That alone could help the Warriors surprise not only the South Division, but all of Berkshire County.
Alberti, Duncan or Kowalczyk could be Wahconah's top runner as a senior - it remains to be seen, though, which one will stand out ahead of the others.
Duncan, for what it's worth, was the first Warrior across the finish line in the Aug. 31 scrimmage race at Mount Greylock, followed by McMahon and Alberti. He was also Wahconah's top runner in last year's Western Mass. Division I meet, with McMahon not even 30 seconds behind him.
Wahconah will still have to replace three runners who finished in the top 100 at last year's Western Mass. meet as seniors.
The breakout runner for the Warriors could be junior Eric Klem. A standout in track and field last spring and a state qualifier in the mile, Klem is in his first year running cross country.
The team, Keefe said, is experimenting with pace lines to improve the scoring of their pack runners. They've tried it out in both practice intervals and at the scrimmage meet.
