Coach: Larry Bell (22nd year)
Last year: 10-3
Key returnees: Emily Kaegi, Sr.; Jenna Phelps, Sr.; Laura Galib, Jr.
After several years of heavy graduation losses, the Mounties return a team with strong numbers, although many will be quite inexperienced.
Three that aren't short on experience figure to be the team's top three runners. Senior Emily Kaegi highlights the trio, as she looks to build on a second-place Western Mass. and 22nd-place state finish in 2012. Juniors Jenna Phelps and Laura Galib offer plenty of experience in the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.
Coach Larry Bell said the key will be avoiding the injury bug. Stability within the team will give Greylock an easier time of figuring out its Nos. 4-7 runners.
Bell sees senior Amalia Leamon, who is rehabbing from an injury this spring, freshman Niku Darafshi and eighth-grader Emma Polumbo as quality candidates to fill some of those spots.
As the Mounties try to establish a top seven, they may follow last year's path. They sputtered throughout the season, looking for consistency and saw their three-year Berkshire County unbeaten streak end at the hands of Lenox.
Greylock found its most complete performance at the best time, though. It finished seventh at All-States with two in the top 46.
